About Tim Johnson:

Tim Johnson is the owner and founder of The Tim Johnson Consulting Group, a 21 year old firm specializing in Governmental Relations, Public Relations, Workforce Development, Business Development, and a wide range of facilitation services, including strategic planning for associations and corporations and industry-based community advisory panels or CAPs.  These CAPs assist industrial plants and their management to more effectively listen to and communicate with the communities in which they operate.  Tim is the leading national consultant for the creation, management, and facilitation of CAPs having created over 25 panels in seven states and facilitated over 1,000 individual CAP meetings.

Tim’s background includes six years as a lead committee staffer for the Louisiana State Senate and five years as the Director of Business Development for the Construction and Maintenance Division of the Shaw Group.  At Shaw, Tim was directly involved in securing over 250 million dollars of construction and maintenance contracts.  Between the Louisiana Senate and Shaw, Tim served almost seven years on the staff of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Pelican Chapter, first as the association chapter’s Director of Education and Training, then as the chapter’s Executive Director.  At ABC, he lead one of the largest privately funded construction craft training centers in the United States with an enrollment of over 1,600 students per semester. During Tim’s tenure at ABC, the Pelican Chapter was among the most decorated chapter of 80 chapters in US – winning seventeen (17) separate National Chapter Awards of Excellence.

Tim served for 2 years as the Chairman of ABC’s National Workforce Development Coordinating Committee and four years on the State of Louisiana’s Economic Development Council.  He currently serves on the Board of Jobs for Louisiana’s Graduates and the Executive Committee of the Greater Baton Rouge, Louisiana Chamber of Commerce.

Today, Tim serves in a consulting role as the Director of Governmental Relations for the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and is a national spokesperson promoting construction craft training and careers in the construction industry.  Tim also works with the Construction Users’ Roundtable and the Construction Workforce Development Center promoting the national labor forecasting program.

Tim also currently serves as the Executive Director of the Central Gulf Industry Alliance (CGIA) – an association of industrial plants and industrial contractors working along the Gulf Coast from Gulfport, Mississippi to Pensacola, Florida.  Headquartered in Mobile, Alabama, CGIA’s mission is to improve industry performance by developing, sharing, and promoting best practices in the areas of workforce development, work safety, quality, and productivity.

Tim resides just outside of Baton Rouge in St. Gabriel.  He has three children (19, 18, 16) and sings tenor in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church Choir.  He enjoys LSU athletics, reading political biographies, running, riding his motorcycle and fishing with his sons.
